250 years ago, Americans stood their ground in the face of tyranny and set the world on a new path. It’s time for us to reassert our commitment to democracy and freedom in that same tradition.

Today, democracy is under attack at home in the U.S. and abroad. We believe that the following actions by the federal government are a direct threat to democracy and freedom in the United States and around the world:

  • The federal government is abusing its authority to reward its political allies and punish its political opponents in ways that gravely harm free speech.
  • Congress is complicit in confirming manifestly unfit cabinet secretaries and department heads appointed by the President.
  • Leaders of federal agencies are wrongfully exercising their fealty to the President rather than fulfilling their oaths of office to the Constitution of the United States.
  • The “Department of Government Efficiency” has been cruel and reckless in its incompetent approach to cutting federal jobs and contracts, has lacked any semblance of transparency, and has been grossly inaccurate and dishonest in its reporting of federal money it claims to have saved.
  • The President has pardoned and emboldened supporters who have committed violence in his name, most egregiously those who rallied behind his lies about the 2020 election.
  • The President has immeasurably damaged the credibility of the United States on the world stage by regularly parroting and emulating despots, making flippant suggestions about forcibly acquiring territory or dislocating people from their lands, and offering rhetorical aid and comfort to despotic regimes.
  • The President has recklessly harmed America’s standing as the leader of the free world and damaged relationships with America’s longstanding democratic allies, threatening strategic alliances that have restrained territorial aggression since World War II.

Stay tuned for ways you can join the effort to stand up for freedom and democracy.
